Step-by-Step Guide To Add Apple TV to Your Home App
While adding Apple TV to the Home app might seem confusing, the process is straightforward. Below we explained how to add the Apple TV in an easy-to-understand step-by-step guide.
Step #1: Download the Home App
The first step to adding your Apple TV to the Home app is to download the app on your device. The Home app is available on the App Store to download for free. However, it is worth noting that you cannot use a Mac to add the Apple TV to the Home app. Also, before downloading the app, ensure your iPhone is updated to the latest version to avoid compatibility issues.
Step #2: Sign In to Your Apple ID
Next, sign in to your Apple ID on your iOS device, be it iPhone or iPad. Signing your Apple TV to the same Apple ID is also advisable.
To check if your Apple TV is signed into the same Apple ID, go to Settings on your Apple TV, navigate to the “Account” option, then check if the iCloud account is the same Apple ID as your iOS device. If they are different, click on the “Sign out” option and sign in with the same Apple ID.
Step #3: Set Up Two-Factor Authentication
Importantly, you must enable two-factor authentication for your iCloud account; otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to remotely control accessories in the Home app.
To set up two-factor authentication, go to the Settings app, tap on your name, then click “Password & Security”. Next, select “Two-Factor Authentication” and turn it on, then click “Continue”.
Choose how you want to enable two-factor authentication, whether a phone number or a trusted device. If you choose the phone number option, a verification code will be sent to it, which you need to enter, then click “Next” to save the changes.
Step #4: Add a Room
At this point, you should be able to see the Apple TV in the Home app of your iOS device. It would help to put the Apple TV in a room for more customization.
So, on your iOS device, launch the Home app, click on the “+” icon and then select “Add a Room”. Click on the “Room Name” field and give it an appropriate name, such as “Living Room”, “Bedroom”, etc.
Next, click “Take a Photo” or “Choose From Existing” and choose any image you want to associate with the room. Lastly, click on the “Save” button at the top right corner of your screen.
Step #5: Assign Accessories to the Room
Finally, assign the Apple TV and any other accessory you want to be accessible in the room. To add an accessory to a room, tap and hold on to the accessory of your choice, then click on “Accessory Details”. In the detail menu, scroll down, select the room of your choice, and click on the “Close” button to save.
You can invite family and friends to a room in the Home app where they can have access to automate any accessory added to the room. So if you add the Apple TV to the room, anyone you invite to the room would be able only to access the Apple TV.
Adding an Apple TV to the Home app on your iPhone or iPad is pretty straightforward. If you follow the steps highlighted in this article, you shouldn’t have trouble connecting the Apple TV to the Home app.
If you’d like to confirm the status of the Apple TV and other accessories connected to the Home app, launch the app and tap on the “Home” button at the top left corner of your screen. If multiple devices are connected to the Home app, you will see everything displayed in “Categories”. With everything set up correctly, you can even use Siri on your iOS device to easily control any accessories.
