How To Change Calorie Goal on iPhone

Calories Iphone

Fitness is an essential aspect of our lives for building and maintaining our physique and ensuring good health and general well-being. When you’re fit, you are less susceptible to chronic diseases. Apple has offered an alternative to personal fitness trainers by providing the technology to help us maintain our fitness using the Fitness and Health apps on the Apple Watch and iPhone.

Quick Answer

The Apple Watch has three goals that you must meet every day. You can’t change the goals from your iPhone. Instead, you can change your calorie goal directly from the Activity App on your Apple Watch. Swipe down and tap the “Change Goals” option. Change the move (calorie) goal, exercise goal, and stand goal, then tap “Confirm” to update the changes.

We will discuss how you can change the calorie goal from your Apple Watch. We shall also discuss how you can change the other two goals on your Apple Watch and how to know if your watch’s OS version has the necessary features to change the Activity goals.

Apple Watch’s Activity Goals

Your Apple Watch has three activity or fitness goals; the move goal, the exercise goal, and the stand goal. The move goal is the number of active calories you want to burn daily. It does not factor in the calories burned while resting or sleeping. You have to move around to achieve this goal.

You can complete your daily exercise goal by engaging in brisk daily activities for at least 30 minutes. The Apple Watch has sensors to monitor your movement and heart rate to determine if you have engaged in brisk activities. Slow walks do not count as exercise. Usually, you can complete your exercise goals by exercising for 30 minutes or more.

To complete your stand goal, you must stand and move around for at least one minute in 12 different hours of the day.

How To Change Your Activity Goals on iPhone

Your activity goals exist to help you achieve optimum physical fitness and health. However, you might need to change your daily activity goals in cases of personal sickness, physical injuries, or any other genuine reason that will keep you from meeting your fitness goals daily.

While your iPhone has the Fitness App that you can use to get detailed information about your fitness goals, it does not have the feature to change them. To change your move, exercise, and stand goals, you must use your Apple Watch.

Follow the steps below to change your activity goals.

  1. Open the Activity App on your Apple Watch. The Activity App is the one with the three rings.
  2. Swipe up and tap “Change Goals.” It displays the Move goal. This is where you set the number of calories you want to burn daily.
  3. Tap the plus sign to increase the number of calories or the minus sign to decrease it.
  4. Once you’ve set it to the required number of calories, tap “Next.” It takes you to the Exercise goal.
  5. Tap the plus sign to increase the number of minutes for your daily exercise goal or the minus sign to decrease it.
  6. Tap “Next.” It takes you to the Stand goal.
  7. Tap the plus sign to increase the number of hours for your stand goal or the minus sign to decrease it.
  8. Tap “OK” to update all changes.

Which Version of Apple Watch Can Change Your Activity Goals?

All versions of the Apple Watch can change the move goal. No matter how outdated your Apple Watch is, you can always set your daily calorie goal according to your preference.

You can only change the stand and exercise goals on Apple WatchOS 7 or a higher OS version. If you use a lower version of the Apple Watch, update it to at least Watch OS 7 to change the other activity goals

If you’re using Apple Watch series 1 and 2, your device doesn’t have the necessary hardware to update to the WatchOS 7.

What Can You Do on Your iPhone’s Fitness App?

You might wonder if the iPhone’s fitness app is any good if it can’t perform simple tasks like changing your move, exercise, and stand goals. Well, even though you can only change your activity goals on your Apple Watch, you can still do many other things on your iPhone’s fitness app.

For starters, you can get a detailed compilation of your entire fitness history on your iPhone. You’ll get detailed information about your workout days, total steps, distance covered, total calories burned, workout history, etc. You can also set activity reminders on your iPhone. Here, you can decide the fitness notifications you want to receive on your Apple Watch.

Summary

Even though you can’t change your calorie goal directly from your iPhone, you can easily monitor your fitness progress, check your fitness history, and set activity reminders through your iPhone’s fitness app. To change your calorie goal, you must use your Apple Watch.
