How To Return Xfinity Modem

How To Return Xfinity Modem 1

Whenever you open an Xfinity account and subscribe to a plan, you’re given a bunch of equipment to use while you’re still on the plan. The equipment is rented, not sold, and the cost has been factored into your subscription. Any changes to the existing plan or cancellation of the account will require you to return the equipment to the company, which can be stressful.

Quick Answer

To return your Xfinity modem, log in to your Xfinity account and follow the instructions on the equipment return page. Choose a return option. If you choose “UPS Prepaid Shipping”, you’ll be given a prepaid shipping label to label your package before shipping. Other options include visiting a local UPS store near you or an Xfinity store.

We have explained the reasons you will be required to return your Xfinity modem. We also discussed the methods and steps you must follow to return your Xfinity modem to the company.

Reasons for Returning Xfinity Modem

Like many other pieces of equipment with your Xfinity subscription, your modem is not yours to keep. And it is not until you want to change service providers that you’re required to return the modem. There are four reasons why you might have to return any Xfinity equipment. They are:

  1. You have canceled your Comcast Xfinity account and are moving to a different service provider.
  2. You want an upgrade or a downgrade on your account, which requires a new modem.
  3. You’re moving to a new location and need a new Xfinity modem.
  4. Your modem is faulty and requires repair or replacement.

If your reason for returning the Xfinity modem falls under any of these options, then continue reading to find out how you can return it to Comcast.

Ways to Return Your Xfinity Modem

There are three ways you can return your modem to Comcast. The first method is mainly done online through your Xfinity account. The second method involves dropping the modem at a local UPS store, while the last method involves going to the Xfinity Store to return the modem.

We have explained all the methods below. Read carefully before choosing the right fit.

Method #1: Return Modem With a UPS Prepaid Shipping Label

  1. Log in to your Xfinity account and open the “Equipment Return” page.
  2. Choose “Modem” as the device you want to return, then click “Continue”.
  3. Choose a reason to return and click “Continue”.
  4. Choose “UPS Prepaid Shipping” as your return option and press confirm.
  5. Print the UPS prepaid shipping label provided for you on the screen.
  6. Place your Xfinity modem in its original box and attach the UPS Prepaid shipping label to the box.
  7. Remove the top portion of the shipping label which contains the tracking number and keep it as your receipt.
  8. Call 1-800-PICK-UPS to schedule a pickup at home using your label tracking number. You can also drop the package anywhere UPS shipments are accepted.
  9. Wait two weeks for the return to be reflected on your Xfinity account.

Method #2: Drop the Modem at a Local UPS Store

  1. Find a local UPS store near you. Click here for the location of the nearest UPS store.
  2. Take your Xfinity modem to the store and hand it over to the UPS representative, who will pack and ship it to Comcast Xfinity. Alternatively, you can package the modem using a cardboard box and attach the UPS shipping label you printed at home.
  3. The UPS representative will issue a receipt with your tracking number after packing the modem for you. With the tracking number, you can track the progress of the modem you returned on Xfinity or the UPS website
  4. Wait two weeks for the return to be reflected on your Xfinity account.

If you provided an email address, you would receive a confirmation email informing you that your modem was received and the date they processed your return.

Method #3: Return the Modem to an Xfinity Store or Comcast Service Center

This is the fastest method to return your Xfinity modem if you live close to the store. By choosing this method, you won’t have to wait two weeks to confirm your return.

To use this method, follow the steps below.

  1. Locate an Xfinity Store or Comcast Service Center near you.
  2. Book an appointment on the “Stores” section of the Xfinity website.
  3. Take your modem to the Xfinity Store or Comcast Service Center near you and hand it over to a representative.
  4. You will receive a receipt that confirms your return details.

Unlike UPS stores, Xfinity stores or Comcast Service Centers are not in abundance. Therefore, it is likely that you’ll find it easier to return your Xfinity modem using “UPS Prepaid Shipping” or going to a UPS local store.

As long as you follow the steps in this article, you wouldn’t have any issues with any of the methods.
