How To Search a Document on iPhone

Google Docs

It’s easy to search a document in macOS by simply pressing the “Command + F” buttons on the keyboard. But, things are different on mobile iOS. If you haven’t used an iPhone for long, you probably haven’t mastered using each and every feature on the device. For that, you want to know how to search for a document on your iPhone.

Quick Answer

The search feature on iPhone is available on the home screen. When you swipe down the screen, a search bar together with a shortlist of Siri suggested apps are immediately revealed. By typing anything on the search bar, you’ll be able to find results from apps, web, messages, shared links, contacts, files, etc. However, the steps to search a document vary in each app, but generally, everything is easy.

We’ll discuss all these in detail below. Rest assured that by the end of this article, you’ll be able to search a document in the various apps on your iPhone with ease.

6 Methods To Search a Document on iPhone

We’ve mentioned above that the methods to search a document on iPhone are different depending on the app on which the document is stored. But, there’s nothing to worry about; the difference is slight, and you won’t have any difficulty.

Method #1: Search a Note in the Notes App

The Notes app has had a lot of improvements over the past few years. Searching for a word, especially in the latest releases of iOS, is now under a different menu. In general, these are the steps to follow.

  1. Open the “Notes” app.
  2. Locate and click the menu button (a circle with three dots).
  3. The menu provides you with a variety of options – choose “Find In Note.”

Info

The document/word search function in the Notes app isn’t case-sensitive. That means searching for a word like “Name” is the same as searching for “name.” Additionally, this search feature also treats spaces in the search queries as separate characters. For example, “Search box” is different from “Searchbox.”
