How To Use Siri With AirPods

Apple AirPods have been a massive hit since they came out, primarily since they work seamlessly on all Apple devices, including the iPod Touch, iPad, and iPhone. And just like most Apple products available today, AirPods have Siri built-in, including the AirPods Pro and Max.

With the help of this voice assistant, you can do different tasks without taking your device out of your pocket, like finding directions, adjusting the volume, or even checking the available battery percentage.

How To Use Siri With AirPods

To know how to use Siri with AirPods, you first need to know the generation/model you have. Then you can move on to the next steps.

Method #1: Double-Tap Your AirPods

If you have first-gen AirPods, you can activate Siri by simply double-tapping either the right or left AirPod. To do so, ensure your AirPods are connected to your iPhone, iPod Touch, or any iOS device. Then, double-tap either of the AirPod. Once you hear the typical Siri chime, go on and make your request.  

You can also do the same for your second-gen AirPods if you find it too awkward to say “Hey Siri” in public. 

Method #2: Use Siri With Your voice

If you have second-gen AirPods or the AirPods Pro, you can activate Siri simply by saying, “Hey Siri!” This is possible because of the custom H1 chip present in these headphones. However, you first need to enable this feature on your iOS device to be able to use it. Here’s what you need to do.

1. Ensure your headphones are connected to your iPhone and wear them.
2. Go to Settings on your iOS device, whether the iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone. 
3. Find and select “Siri & Search“.
4. You’ll find the option for this feature at the top under “Ask Siri“. Turn on the toggle next to the option that says “Listen for ‘Hey Siri'”.

Now, whenever you say “Hey Siri“, followed by a question like “Which way is home?“, Siri will listen to you and reply to your command.

You can also do cool stuff like control your AirPods by asking Siri to “skip the song” or “turn up the volume.” In fact, Siri can go as far as creating an event in the Calendar if you ask it to do so! 

Method #3: Using the Force Sensor

You can’t double-tap AirPods Pro to activate Siri, but you can use the force sensor. 

However, you will have to change the settings before you can press and hold the force sensor on either AirPods Pro to call on Siri. Here’s what you need to do.

1. Connect your AirPods Pro to your iOS device and wear them.
2. On your iPhone (or whatever iOS device you have), go to Settings.
3. Go to “Bluetooth“.
4. Tap the info icon next to your AirPods Pro. This will be a blue circle with the letter i inside.
5. Choose “Right” or “Left” and choose “Siri“.

Note that by default, the controls on the first- and third-gen AirPods and the AirPods Max are set to activate Siri. 

Once you save these changes, you can press and hold the Force Sensor. You can make whatever command you want Siri to follow as soon as you hear a chime.
