Our sound test will help you quickly test your sound without installing any software.

Step 1. Make sure that your headphones or speakers are connected and not muted.

Step 2. Click the buttons on your left one-by-one to test each speaker alone and both speakers together in stereo.

Done! If you heard a sound playing from both speakers separately and in stereo, your sound is working perfectly.

If you didn’t hear anything, there might be a problem with your connection or setup. Take a look at the frequent problems/solutions section below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find solutions to common problems and answers to frequent questions.

Why is my sound not working?

There are a couple of common reasons why your sound might not be working.

  • Check that your speakers or headphones are connected to your computer and plugged in.
  • Make sure that your sound is not muted. If you do not know how to unmute the sound, then we have provided a tutorial below.
  • Make sure your sound drivers are up-to-date, you can use an automated driver finding tool, such as DriverBooster to help you with the process.
  • Check that the correct audio device has been chosen from the “Audio mixer” on your operating system. You can find the “Audio mixer” by clicking the speaker icon next to the date and time.

How to update sound drivers?

Find out the name of your sound card by navigating to the “Device Manager” on Windows and looking at the section “Sound”. Take note of your sound card’s name. Head over to Google and search for  “name of your sound card” + “drivers”. For example, “realtek sound card drivers”. Download and install the drivers. If needed, restart your computer and recheck your sound.

If all that seems like a lot of work, then you can use driver finding software to keep your drivers automatically up-to-date. We recommend using  DriverBooster.

How to make sound louder / unmute sound?

On every major operating system (such as Windows, Mac OS and Linux distros), there’s a speaker symbol (🔊) on either bottom-right or top-right of the screen. Click the symbol (🔊) and adjust your volume by moving the slider.

Why are my left and right speakers swapped?

You have connected your speakers, or are wearing your headphones, the wrong way – don’t worry happens to everyone. All you need to do is switch the location of your speakers or rewire the cables the other way around.

What to do if only one of my speakers works?

Check that your speaker is connected to your computer and is turned on. If your speaker is both connected and turned on and the sound still doesn’t work. You might have a faulty speaker.
